The food and setting here is fantastic and the tapas were as good as any we had during our stay in Tarragona. The patatas bravas were excellent as was the calamari dish and the Iberian ham and eggs were superb. You might need to book in advance as it is super busy however the staff were always very accommodating to us. Moltes Gracies!
Beautiful restaurant right outside cathedral. Some of the food was great some was ok- maybe the descriptions were lost in translation. Service was good and overall a lovely time was had. Beach rose was a great wine and unusually blush which was a bonus. Fried artichokes were fab
I had such a great experience at Casa Balcells! The food was delicious - fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. But what really made the midday special was the service. Our waiter, Carlos, was incredibly attentive without ever being intrusive. He made us feel truly welcome. You can tell he genuinely cares about his guests having a good time. Thanks to him, the whole dinner felt warm and personal. Definitely a place I’d recommend and would love to come back to!
Had one of the best dining experiences in Tarragona here. Great food, great service and an incredible location! Highly recommend!
Extraordinary setting, in the immediate shadow of the gorgeous cathedral, the square in which the restaurant is based is thrumming with history. It’s a busy place, so orders go astray a little, but they try to handle it with aplomb. The food is good - steak tender, croquettes gooey, patatas bravas moist, chicken much applauded.
We tried a beef tartar, beef t-bone steak (1kg, but please take into account: you have to grill it my yourself), sangria de cave (I love it), and anchovy Everything was delicious The staff was so friendly. The location is gorgeous. Highly recommend!
Me and my partner ate here twice during a week in a Tarragona. The first night we had the paella which was delicious and very well priced.. especially considering the stunning location. The second time we had lunch and had the set menu. Again the food was amazing and the value for money is exceptional. 20 euros for three courses and a drink per person. The staff were also very friendly and explained the set menu. Would highly recommend.
We visited the Cathedral on Saturday 13th and stopped by Casa Balcells afterwards. We were served by the lovely Alina who was helpful, friendly and warm. We had the seafood paella for two with a cold beer followed by the apple tatin with salted caramel ice cream. I will spend the rest of my life trying to find a paella as good as that. Wonderful experience and highly recommended.
